How the exchange system works

An exchange engine is a fully remanufactured engine that swaps places with your old one. You get a remanufactured engine with a 12 month warranty, we take care of your old engine, and the core deposit is refunded once it has been approved. That is how we keep prices down and engines in circulation.

Step by step

Search and orderSearch by your reg number or your engine code. You see which engines fit and the price up front, incl. VAT. At purchase the core deposit is added, and you get it back at the end of the process.

We verify against your VINThe same engine code can exist in several versions. Before anything is built we check the exact engine version against your VIN (chassis number). The right engine, guaranteed. Until the build starts you can cancel free of charge.

The engine is built to orderWe do not pretend to have stock. Your engine is built to order and quality assured to Meksta's standard. Build time normally approx. 1 week, up to 2 weeks during high workload.

Final inspectionEvery engine undergoes a final inspection in our workshop in Tyresö.

Delivery on a palletNormally approx. 1 week from a verified order, up to 2 weeks during high workload, then delivery. The carrier will notify you before delivery. You can also collect in Tyresö.

Installation and sump transferThe engine is a long block: a bare engine without the sump, turbo, injectors and EGR. Your workshop transfers the sump and the ancillaries from your old engine. The installation must be carried out professionally, and the documentation kept for the warranty.

Core return and deposit backOnce your old engine is out of the car you send it in to us yourself, within 30 days and with an intact block (no holes, no cracks, no broken-off pieces). Once it has arrived and been approved the full deposit is refunded.

What is a long block?

A long block is the heart of the engine: the block, the crank assembly and the cylinder head, with the timing drive and gears according to the engine family's specification. The sump, turbo, injectors, EGR and ancillaries are not included and are transferred from your old engine. That keeps the price down and means the engine matches your car's existing equipment.

Why a deposit?

Your old engine is not scrap, it is the core for the next remanufacture. The deposit is our security that the core comes back. That is why you get the full deposit back once your old engine has arrived at us and been approved.

12 month warranty with no mileage limit

All exchange engines are delivered with a 12 month warranty with no mileage limit, counted from the delivery date. The warranty covers faults in the engine's materials or workmanship, and an installation warranty is included: if a warranty fault is confirmed on the engine, the cost of the installation labour is also compensated according to the warranty terms.
