Cylinder head
porting

The flow through the cylinder head decides how much air and fuel your engine can breathe. Meksta ports and flow-optimises the cylinder head to release hidden horsepower, with hand work and measurable precision.

More air, more power

The ports of a cylinder head are rarely optimised from the factory. There are casting flash marks, uneven surfaces and restrictions left by the production process. By working the ports by hand with specialist tools we can improve the airflow considerably without replacing the cylinder head.

Port matching

We make sure the passages between the cylinder head and the manifold line up and remove any edges that disturb the flow.

Valve work

Valve seat machining (Mira cutter) for optimal seat angles and valve grinding to improve both flow and sealing.

Work we carry out

  • Porting of intake and exhaust ports
  • Port matching to the manifold
  • Valve seat machining (Mira cutter)
  • Valve grinding
  • Resurfacing of the cylinder head face
  • Valve guide replacement
  • Valve spring matching for reprofiled camshafts

The combination gives the most power

Porting delivers the most alongside camshaft grinding, uprated valve springs and correct tuning. We can handle the whole chain, from porting to dyno verification.

Examples of cylinder heads we have ported

Opel C.I.H. 2.0 XE: race porting

Below is a cylinder head from an Opel C.I.H. 2.0 XE on which we carried out careful porting of the intake and exhaust ports. This cylinder head ran in a race car that recently took the win in an 8-hour race.

The work covered full porting of all intake and exhaust ports, valve seat machining and valve grinding. The result was a considerably improved airflow with an even distribution across all cylinders.

How we work with your cylinder head

Pressure testing & inspection
1

Pressure testing & inspection

The cylinder head is pressure tested to check for cracks. We inspect the gasket face, the ports and the valve guides.

Porting & machining
2

Porting & machining

The ports are worked by hand and by machine. We focus on even flow across all cylinders and optimal port shape.

Verification & delivery
3

Verification & delivery

The ported cylinder head is inspected and checked before delivery.

Frequently asked questions about porting

Porting means the intake and exhaust ports in the cylinder head are worked by hand to improve airflow. Casting flash, uneven surfaces and flow restrictions from the production process are removed or reshaped. The result is a cylinder head that can breathe more air, which releases hidden horsepower without changing the engine.
